Getting a new smartphone is an exciting experience, especially if it’s been a couple of years since you last got a new one! But while the temptation to start downloading apps and snapping pictures is huge, there are a few things you should do straightaway to make sure your personal information stays safe and the phone runs as fast and as efficiently as possible. 1. Create a lock password or PIN If you ever lose your smartphone or it falls into the wrong hands, a password or PIN means that whoever ends up with the phone is unable to use it or access your personal information. Don’t use a sequence of letters or number, like 1234, and steer clear of using your date of birth. As you would imagine, you cannot really recover data from your lost or stolen Android phone once it has gone. You can only use the data cached in the cloud by Google, which can include contacts, wallpapers, calendar entries and some account information. It does not automatically back up images, games, movies and other data so you should configure backups right away.
